PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Design Engineer II is responsible for the design, development and manufacture of new and existing products from inception, through design and into production. The design engineer utilizes computer aided 3D modeling software to create new drawings, revise existing drawings, generate product submittals and shop drawings as required for various sheet metal and air filtration products. A background in HVAC is preferred, with a working knowledge of basic airflow and fan principles.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Reviews job packages and specifications to insure product is in compliance with customer requirements.
  • Participates in new product development projects.
  • Generate product and part drawings using Autodesk AutoCAD & Inventor 3D modeling software.
  • Revise, as required, existing drawings based on customer requirements.
  • Prepares manufacturing Bill of Materials utilizing ERP software.
  • Prepares manufacturing instructions sheets, IOM’s and shop packages.
  • Prepares purchase requisitions as required.
  • Maintains document control as require under the Quality Assurance Program.
  • Performs other related duties as required by management.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 3-5 years sheet metal product design experience in a team-based environment. Individuals with relevant work experience will also be considered.
  • Good working knowledge of general drafting standards.
  • 1-3 years’ experience using Inventor 3D modeling software.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in sheet metal design.
  • An understanding of basic ECN processes. Familiarity with Autodesk Vault is a plus.
  • Ability to organize work to meet the departmental goals and objectives.
  • Creative problem solving and math skills.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office required.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills required
  • Ability to manage priorities while working on a variety of projects.
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems such as ERP/LX, MAPICS, BPICS, MACPAC or other similar platform.

 

DECISIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze and resolve questions and problems in the shop.
  • Uses established standards to select the correct parts and materials for each product.
  • Contacts the customer if information is needed to verify product specifications.
  • Generates complex weldments and weld maps, sizing welds according to AWS requirements.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to lift up to approximately 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able communicate on the telephone for lengthy periods.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and keyboard with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Must be able to travel throughout the facility to obtain information needed to perform job functions.
